getting a chat going on ancestors and activism

trying out a substack feature and seeing if you'd like to connect this way

So today is my very first day of classes. Wish me luck.

I’ve heard from other writers (and I know you may not be subscribing to my substack because I’m a writer, but here we are) that substack is a great venue for connecting with one’s online community for the sake of discussion.

I’m imagining maybe doing a series of these kinds of posts and responses on some of the recent documentaries about the religious right (the Heretic Happy Hour podcast, on which I’m a co-host, is doing a series of shows that I might use as a springboard for our discussion).

For today, however, I wonder if we can talk ancestors and activism.

Yesterday I dropped the final episode of Their Wildest Dreams? A podcast on ancestors and activism. Thanks to my publisher, Chalice Media Group, I did an eight-month long series to bring attention to my recent book, Rebels, Despots, and Saints: The Ancestors Who Free Us and the Ancestors We Need to Free. 

And since I’m launching into a whole new endeavor, I’m very much in my feels about how the work I’ve been doing for years may just dissolve into the ether. I mean, my class tonight is Quantitative Reasoning. WHO EVEN AM I?

You may have listened to an episode or two of the ancestors podcast. You may have read part of my book. (Pro-tip: if you haven’t, the first and last episodes of the ancestors podcast includes me reading excerpts from the book.) You may have come to the ancestors summit or the course Katy Valentine and I offered.

Or you may not have had a chance to do any of those things.

EIther way, I wonder if you’d mind sharing something you’ve been mulling about your relationship to ancestors, and how it shapes your own understanding of your work to create a better world. And if it connects to the book, podcast, summit, or course, let me know! But don’t let that be a barrier to jumping into the conversation. I’d love to hear from you.
